Microsoft love is WRONG love.

Varun Dubey poses the question at CoolTechZone.com - Is It Wrong to Love Microsoft?

“Microsoft is perhaps the most hated company in the history of business. Anointed with names such as the Redmond Giant, Microshaft, Microsloth, so on and so forth, the nicknames and jokes are perhaps exceeded only by the vengeance with which people hate it.

The question is why do they? I love Microsoft. Absolutely adore it and wha’s more, I hate Linux. I think it’s the most over rated piece of software ever built and survives simply out of spite and not because it is terribly good at doing something because it is not!”

Really, when your argument starts to fall apart by the end of the second brief paragraph, you’re in trouble; apparently Linux (and by extension, all other non-Windows operating systems) are only utilised because of some seething petty jealousy towards Microsoft, and not at all because people are tired of a bloated, resource-hogging mess of a system like XP.

It gets worse from there - bring on the slander!

“…you don’t have as many security threats for other software as most of the people developing Linux probably sit at night writing up malicious code for windows!”

Riiiight… So now the majority of Linux developers are actually virus writers intent on wrecking people’s computers and forcing their radical fundamentalist open-source agenda upon the world? I can see it now; an innocent Windows user is checking their email (with Outlook, natch) one morning, when they open a mail with the subject “I love your sexy sexiness, oh baby”, only for the screen to go black and the words “Torvalds Akbar!” to start flashing everywhere. Yeah, that little statement quoted above makes a world of sense and isn’t at all ridiculous or indicative that maybe Varun is talking out of his arse.

Oh, and before we leave the Linux-bashing section, let’s just point out that CoolTechZone.com runs on Linux - no IIS for them then.

Dubey then goes on to criticise the European Union, Sun Microsystems, Oracle Corp, anti-trust suits, the world, and I think I heard him talking trash about yo momma… Rarely does he actually talk about Windows, or any other MS software; in fact, over the course of 840-plus words, Dubey barely devotes 3 complete sentences to extolling the virtues of Microsoft’s products, instead choosing to bitch about Linux (which, from the tone of his ‘article’, he has little understanding of), and anything else he perceives as a threat to M$ domination.

n.b. - don’t get me wrong, I’m not a staunch anti-MS type; I don’t particularly like Microsoft’s products, but I do recognise that their ubiquity does make them useful every now and then. In particular, they make most excellent coasters on which to rest one’s beverage :P
