UnixKit - UNIX Programs For Windows
I love Cygwin, the Linux API emulation layer for Windows, and use it’s Bash shell every day as a replacement for the piss-weak Windows cmd.exe. However, for some people it can be a bit large and cumbersome; my minimalist ’stripped-down’ installation still takes up over 700MB of disk space!
UnixKit for Windows is a tiny collection of native ports of many common UNIX programs, which doesn’t require emulation like Cygwin, and can be run from a USB drive if necessary.
It gives you the possibility of carrying a portable UNIX shell in your pocket, for all of those times when a portable UNIX shell could be the difference between life and death (don’t laugh, it could happen).
UPDATE: Apparently the UnixKit page has been offline for a while, so after careful consideration (It is just a handy compilation of other people’s free software) I’ve decided to upload the .rar file to my server. It will stay up until I’m contacted and asked to remove it.
